Honor’s New ‘Robot Phone’ Features a Dancing Camera – Ankor Tech
Spread the love

Honor is set to disrupt the smartphone market with its innovative “Robot phone,” a device featuring a sophisticated movable camera arm. Ahead of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the manufacturer confirmed that the device is scheduled for a commercial launch in the second half of this year.

Beyond traditional photography, the smartphone is designed to operate autonomously, responding to environmental cues without requiring direct user commands. The device boasts a distinct “personality,” capable of performing physical gestures—such as nodding or shaking its head—and even dancing to the rhythm of music.

Advanced Imaging and Robotic Engineering

The core of the device is a 200-megapixel camera integrated into a three-axis gimbal system. This hardware allows for smooth rotation and high-end stabilization, supported by a “Super Steady” mode for video. Users can also leverage the “Spinshot” feature, which rotates the camera by 90 or 180 degrees to capture cinematic angles.

To achieve this, Honor developed a proprietary micro-motor system. The engineers utilized structural techniques derived from the company’s foldable phone line, ensuring the four-degree-of-freedom gimbal fits seamlessly within the chassis. The robotic arm is constructed from the same high-durability materials found in the Honor Magic V6 hinge, boasting a tensile strength of 2800 MPa.

AI Integration and Enhanced Interaction

The “Robot phone” is more than a camera; it acts as an intelligent assistant. Users can interact via voice or text, with the robot providing physical feedback to suggestions. For instance, in demonstrations, the device physically signaled agreement or disagreement when asked for fashion advice.

Furthermore, the robotic camera enables advanced AI-powered object tracking for video calls. By physically tracking the user’s movement, the system provides a more fluid experience, comparable to an elevated version of Apple’s Center Stage technology.

Broader Ecosystem Expansion

Alongside the announcement of the robotic camera technology, Honor unveiled a suite of new hardware, including the Honor Magic V6 foldable, which features a massive 6,600 mAh battery, the Honor MagicPad 4 tablet, and the updated Honor MagicBook 14 laptop.
