During the WWDC 2024 keynote, Apple officially introduced InSight, a powerful new feature for Apple TV+ designed to provide real-time information about the content viewers are watching. This tool allows subscribers to instantly identify actors on screen and discover music titles, bridging the gap between passive viewing and interactive discovery.

How InSight Transforms Your Viewing Experience
InSight functions similarly to Amazon’s X-Ray, offering a comprehensive overview of actor biographies and behind-the-scenes data. However, Apple has integrated a unique Shazam-like capability that elevates the experience: the system identifies the music currently playing in a scene and provides a seamless option to save the track directly to an Apple Music playlist.
To access this information, subscribers simply use their remote to pull up a display interface. From there, they can explore detailed filmographies, background information on cast members, and access direct links to official soundtracks on Apple Music.
Enhanced Audio and tvOS 18 Upgrades
Beyond InSight, Apple announced significant improvements to tvOS 18, focusing heavily on audio clarity. The “Enhance Dialogue” feature, previously exclusive to HomePod users, is expanding to include TV speakers, receivers, AirPods, and other connected Bluetooth devices.
Leveraging machine learning and computational audio, Enhance Dialogue is becoming more sophisticated in the latest update. The system is engineered to prioritize vocal clarity over background noise, music, and intense action sequences, specifically optimizing the experience for users with an Apple TV 4K.
Smarter Subtitles and Platform Expansion
Apple is also introducing intelligent subtitle automation in tvOS 18. The system will now automatically trigger subtitles in specific, high-utility scenarios, such as:
- When the user mutes the audio.
- When the show’s language differs from the system settings.
- During instances where a user chooses to replay a scene.
These updates are scheduled for release later this year. While the focus remains on the Apple TV ecosystem, the WWDC 2024 event also showcased a major redesign of the Photos app for iOS 18, the rollout of visionOS 2 for the Vision Pro headset, and the long-awaited arrival of a dedicated Calculator app for iPad.
