Depop Launches ‘Outfits’ Tool for Pinterest-Style Collages – Ankor Tech
Spread the love

Fashion resale giant Depop has officially rolled out “Outfits,” a new creative tool that allows users to build mood board-style collages directly within the app. Launched this Wednesday, the feature aims to streamline how users style, share, and shop for curated looks, tapping into the growing trend of digital fashion curation.

How the ‘Outfits’ Feature Works

The interface is designed for intuitive styling. To create a collage, users simply select an item from their feed and click the “scissors” icon on the right side of the screen. From there, the app provides a suite of customization options, including:

  • Background Customization: Options to add vibrant colors to set the mood.
  • Spatial Control: Ability to adjust the size and placement of individual images.
  • Design Templates: Built-in guides to help users structure their layouts professionally.

Shoppable Curation and Social Sharing

Beyond aesthetics, the “Outfits” tool is deeply integrated into the Depop marketplace. Every item featured in a collage remains fully shoppable. If a specific piece sells out, the app automatically suggests similar alternatives to ensure the user’s vision remains actionable for potential buyers.

This functionality serves a dual purpose: it empowers sellers to highlight their inventory in a lifestyle context and provides buyers with visual inspiration. Once completed, these collages can be exported as static images to platforms like Instagram and Pinterest, aligning with the visual-first habits of Depop’s Gen Z demographic.

Market Strategy and Competition

The move mirrors broader industry trends, most notably Pinterest’s own efforts to gamify curation, such as the introduction of its “Shuffles” app in 2022. By integrating this functionality, Depop is positioning itself not just as a resale destination, but as a hub for fashion discovery and social commerce.

Growth Metrics

The launch arrives during a period of significant financial momentum for the platform. Following parent company Etsy’s Q2 2025 earnings report, it was revealed that Depop’s Gross Merchandise Sales (GMS) grew by 34.7% year-over-year. With the company currently on track for a $1 billion GMS run rate, it continues to outperform regional competitors like Mercari, which reported a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of $728 million for Q4 2024.

The “Outfits” feature is currently available to all users within the Depop app globally.
