Google has officially launched an agentic AI-powered business-calling feature for all users across the United States. Simultaneously, the tech giant is upgrading its Google Search AI Mode by integrating the powerful Gemini 2.5 Pro model and introducing advanced “Deep Search” capabilities to enhance complex research tasks.

Automating Local Business Inquiries

The new calling feature acts as a personal assistant, contacting local businesses on the user’s behalf to gather critical data such as pricing and appointment availability. This tool eliminates the need for manual phone calls for routine information gathering. Initially tested through Search Labs in January, the service is now moving to a wider release.

To utilize the feature, users search for services—such as “pet groomers near me”—and select the “Have AI check pricing” prompt. The system then requests specific details, like service type and scheduling preferences, to perform the outreach. Google confirmed that every automated call begins with a clear disclosure that the system is an AI calling on behalf of a user, addressing previous privacy concerns regarding transparency in AI-driven communication.

Gemini 2.5 Pro and Deep Search Capabilities

Google is also bolstering its AI Mode, which allows for complex, multi-part queries. Subscribers to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra now gain access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, a model specifically optimized for advanced reasoning, complex mathematics, and coding tasks. Users can toggle this model directly within the AI Mode interface.

Complementing the model upgrade is the introduction of “Deep Search.” This feature is designed to automate extensive research by performing hundreds of individual searches, synthesizing the findings, and generating a fully cited, comprehensive report in minutes. Google positions this as a vital tool for high-stakes decision-making, such as financial analysis, real estate research, or academic study.

Competitive Landscape

These updates signal Google’s aggressive push to maintain its dominance in the search market against competitors like Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search. The company continues to rapidly expand its AI Mode ecosystem, following recent additions such as interactive voice conversations and AI-driven shopping assistance, which provides visual product data and personalized guidance.
