Apple has officially rolled out the first beta of iOS 26.2, bringing significant interface refinements and productivity enhancements to iPhone users. Key updates include granular customization for the “Liquid Glass” Lock Screen clock, a long-awaited alarm function within the Reminders app, and the expansion of live translation features across the European Union.

Advanced Liquid Glass Customization

The “Liquid Glass” design language, Apple’s latest aesthetic overhaul, is receiving its first major functional update. Beta 1 introduces a dedicated slider that allows users to adjust the opacity of the Lock Screen clock. This feature provides the flexibility to render the clock almost entirely transparent or apply a distinct, frosted-glass effect. For those who prefer a traditional aesthetic, the option to disable the Liquid Glass effect entirely remains available.

Reminders App Gets Urgent Alarms

Productivity receives a boost with the integration of alarms into the Reminders app. Users can now toggle an “Urgent” setting when scheduling a task. Once enabled, the app will trigger an audible alarm at the specified time, ensuring that time-sensitive obligations are not overlooked. This update directly addresses frequent user feedback regarding the need for more intrusive notifications for critical tasks.

Live Translation and EU Expansion

As part of the iOS 26.2 rollout, Apple is expanding its live translation service for AirPods to the European Union. Previously restricted to the U.S. and select regions, this feature enables Siri to provide real-time translations directly through AirPods. The delay in the EU rollout was attributed to Apple’s efforts to ensure full compliance with the Digital Markets Act.

Enhanced App Functionality

The update spans several core Apple applications:

  • Apple News: A new “Following” tab has been added to the navigation bar, consolidating favorites, saved stories, and history. Quick-access buttons for categories like Food, Politics, Puzzles, and Sports are also included.
  • Apple Podcasts: The app now features AI-generated chapters for episodes. Additionally, a “Podcast Mentions” function will automatically link to other shows referenced by hosts in the episode description.
  • Apple Music: Listeners now gain offline support for song lyrics, allowing them to view content without a network connection.
  • Accessibility: A new feature in the Settings app allows the iPhone screen to flash upon receiving notifications.

The public release of iOS 26.2 is currently scheduled for December, with further refinements expected as the beta testing cycle progresses.
