Apple officially released the fourth developer beta of iOS 26 this Tuesday, introducing critical refinements to its “Liquid Glass” design language and the return of AI-powered notification summaries for news. This update arrives just before the anticipated launch of the iOS 26 public beta, expected to roll out later this week.
Refining AI News Summarization
The re-introduction of AI news summaries follows a period of suspension earlier this year. The feature was previously paused after the BBC reported that an AI-generated summary incorrectly claimed Luigi Mangione—the suspect in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson—had died by suicide.
To address transparency, Apple has implemented a clear warning within the “News & Entertainment” settings. The interface now explicitly states: “Summarization may change the meaning of the original headlines,” and advises users to “Verify information.” This setup screen is part of a new onboarding experience that greets users upon installation, covering features like Siri, notification prioritization, and the revamped Camera app.

Liquid Glass UI Evolution
The “Liquid Glass” redesign continues to evolve in beta 4. While previous iterations fluctuated regarding transparency levels, the latest build reverses earlier trends, applying consistent aesthetic updates across the App Store, Photos, Apple Music, and Weather apps.
A notable addition is the Notification Center’s new dynamic tint, which shifts as the user scrolls. Furthermore, the interface now darkens the wallpaper upon entering the notification view to improve readability.

Visual Customization and Broader Ecosystem Updates
Beyond UI tweaks, beta 4 introduces new dynamic wallpaper options that shift colors based on system states, alongside specific new wallpapers for CarPlay. These visual changes accompany a broader release across Apple’s ecosystem, with corresponding fourth betas launched for iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, and Xcode.
