MoviePass Launches Mogul: Fantasy Hollywood Gaming for All – Ankor Tech
Spread the love

MoviePass has officially transitioned its film studio fantasy platform, Mogul, from private beta to a public release. The platform, which functions similarly to daily fantasy sports, allows users to step into the shoes of a studio executive to build and manage a roster of films, actors, and directors.

Following a successful testing phase with 5,000 users, the web-based game is now accessible to the more than 400,000 individuals on the platform’s waiting list and is rolling out to the general public.

Mastering the Hollywood Studio Mechanics

Upon registration, players receive a virtual budget of one million “Mogul Coin” to assemble their studio team. The game challenges players to draft talent and projects based on market value; for instance, high-profile projects like Wicked: For Good and its stars, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, carry specific price tags. Participants are granted two free roster swaps each week to adjust their strategy.

According to MoviePass founder Stacy Spikes, the game is designed to mirror the high-stakes decision-making of real-world studio heads. Success requires more than just picking popular names; it demands strategic foresight. Factors such as public controversies—like the sexual misconduct allegations surrounding Jared Leto—can influence a film’s performance, just as they would in the real industry.

Advanced Strategies for Success

To gain a competitive edge, Spikes suggests looking beyond major franchises like Marvel. Diversifying portfolios with independent films or tapping into the global reach of Bollywood cinema can often yield higher returns. Key tactical considerations include:

  • Focus on Net Profitability: The scoring system prioritizes net profit over total gross revenue.
  • Timing is Everything: Investing in a project early is significantly cheaper than drafting talent or films closer to their official release dates.
  • Spotting Talent: Identifying rising stars before they hit mainstream peaks is a critical skill for climbing the leaderboard.

Blockchain Integration and Future Roadmap

Mogul leverages the Sui layer 1 blockchain to record all trades and selections transparently. The current fall season spans 12 weeks, aligning with the industry’s awards season. To incentivize early adoption, MoviePass has announced a prize pool of up to $100,000 in tokens for the inaugural season. Users who activate their accounts by 11:59 p.m. ET on October 31 will also receive “Founding Member” status and exclusive in-app badges.

Looking ahead, the development team is working on private leagues for friends and dedicated iOS and Android applications. MoviePass also hints at future licensing agreements that could potentially introduce real-money competition by next year.
