Oura, the market leader in the smart ring industry, has officially acquired Doublepoint, a Helsinki-based startup specializing in advanced gesture recognition technology. This strategic move aims to integrate sophisticated AI-driven hand-tracking capabilities into Oura’s wearable ecosystem, signaling a major shift in how users will interact with their devices in the future.
Scaling Through Strategic Innovation
The acquisition arrives during a period of explosive growth for Oura. Following a valuation of approximately $11 billion last fall, the company has seen its user base double in a short timeframe, reaching 5.5 million rings sold—up from 2.5 million in June 2024. With current momentum, Oura projects its annual sales will surpass $1.5 billion by 2026.
The broader smart ring market is expanding rapidly, with shipments surging nearly 51% in 2025 according to data from Bloomberg. Oura continues to maintain its dominant position in this competitive landscape.
Integrating AI Expertise
By onboarding the Doublepoint team, Oura gains a specialized group of AI architects and engineers. The startup’s four founders will play a pivotal role in designing the next generation of AI experiences, focusing on intuitive, human-first interactions that extend beyond basic health tracking.
“As we continue to build the next era of Oura, strategic acquisitions play a key role in accelerating our growth and expanding what our devices and platform can do,” said Oura CEO Tom Hale. “Welcoming the Doublepoint team strengthens our bench with world-class talent and helps us move faster to deliver intuitive experiences across devices, services, and environments.”
Building a Wearable Ecosystem
This deal represents Oura’s fourth major acquisition, highlighting a consistent strategy of absorbing specialized technologies to build a more robust platform. The company has previously integrated the following entities into its operations:
- Sparta Science: A Bay Area-based health tracking startup.
- Veri: A metabolic health startup.
- Proxy: A digital ID startup.
With the addition of Doublepoint’s gesture recognition, Oura is positioning itself to evolve from a passive health monitoring tool into an active interface for the digital world.
