Pocket FM, the India-based audio platform aiming to become the “Netflix of audio,” is deploying a powerful new suite of AI tools to accelerate content production. By integrating advanced generative technology, the company is enabling its writers to craft narratives, sharpen cliffhangers, and optimize storytelling for hundreds of episodes at record speed.

CoPilot: The Writer’s New Assistant

The core of this initiative is CoPilot, an AI-driven toolkit designed to function as a virtual writers’ room. The system analyzes thousands of hours of data to identify structural elements that drive listener engagement within specific genres. Key features include:

  • Narrative Transformation: Converts standard prose into dialogue-heavy scripts.
  • Beat Analysis: Shapes pacing to maximize audience retention.
  • Dynamic Editing: Offers “shorten” or “expand” functions and suggests high-stakes plot endings.
  • Production Support: Automatically generates character bios, relationship maps, and suggests background sound effects.

Beyond creation, CoPilot includes a review module that audits grammar and plot consistency, while providing qualitative feedback to ensure stories remain compelling.

Global Scaling and Revenue Impact

Pocket FM is leveraging these tools to drastically reduce its time-to-market in new regions. Previously, establishing a foothold in a new territory required 12 to 18 months; with AI-assisted localization and adaptation, that window has shrunk to under three months.

The impact is measurable: in the German market, writer productivity surged by 50%. In the U.S., content developed with AI assistance now accounts for 10% of total playtime, generating $7 million in revenue over the past year while slashing production costs by two to three times.

Future Roadmap: The Proprietary LLM

The company plans to launch its own large language model (LLM) by next year. This proprietary model will consolidate existing functions—such as adaptation, dramatization, and context retention—into a single engine. Co-founder Prateek Dixit expects this transition to eliminate the need for managing multiple smaller, specialized AI models.

The aggressive adoption of AI has not been without friction. Pocket FM has faced multiple rounds of layoffs over the last 12 months, leading to legal challenges in California regarding employment and wage practices. Critics and some writers have raised concerns over “AI slop”—the potential for a flood of low-quality, automated content that could degrade the user experience and make discovery difficult.

In response, Pocket FM asserts that its AI moderation framework rigorously checks for copyright issues, duplication, and quality before any content goes live. The company maintains that human writers remain essential, with their roles evolving to focus more on editing, refining, and steering AI output rather than manual drafting.
