Slack is aggressively expanding its AI capabilities to transform workplace productivity. The platform is rolling out advanced search functionality, automated transcriptions for Huddles, and intelligent summary tools for channels and threads, aiming to streamline how teams manage information.

Advanced Search Across Ecosystems
The new AI-powered search allows users to query across channels and integrated third-party applications—including Google Drive, Salesforce, and Microsoft Teams—to instantly locate relevant files and historical conversations. This enhanced search capability is currently designated for users on Slack’s Enterprise plans.
AI-Driven Huddle Enhancements
Slack is upgrading “Huddles,” its native voice and video chat feature, by integrating automated call transcriptions and comprehensive summaries. The system is designed to automatically capture and highlight key action items discussed during these real-time meetings, reducing the need for manual note-taking.

Streamlined Catch-Up and Context
To assist users in navigating high-volume communication, Slack is introducing automated message summaries for channels and threads, ensuring team members can quickly get up to speed after time away. Additionally, the platform is developing:
- Profile Summaries: Insights into a user’s role and recent contributions.
- Activity Tab Updates: A dedicated space to surface pending action items from messages where the user was mentioned.
- Contextual Explanations: An AI tool designed to explain the meaning or background of a specific message within the broader conversation flow.

Canvas and Interface Overhaul
For Slack Canvas, the collaborative document workspace, the company is implementing an AI-powered writing assistant. This tool will enable users to generate new canvases directly from ongoing conversations or reformat existing content with ease. Complementing these functional upgrades, Slack is also rolling out a design refresh that creates a unified, centralized space for all shared files, lists, and Canvas items.
