TikTok is rolling out a suite of beta features designed to elevate the visibility of songwriters on its platform. The update introduces a dedicated “Songwriter” profile label and a specialized tab, allowing creators to showcase their musical catalog directly within the app.

Expanding Access and Beta Testing

Currently, these features are available to a limited cohort of publishing partners and songwriters. TikTok has implemented a waitlist for creators interested in joining the program. The initiative follows extensive research, including a survey of over 870 songwriters, aimed at identifying the specific challenges creators face regarding profile building and monetization.

Data-Driven Development

The move aligns with industry trends highlighted by an independent survey, which revealed that more than 50% of songwriters utilizing social media for promotion rely on TikTok. Jordan Lowy, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnership, emphasized the platform’s unique capacity to help songwriters narrate the stories behind their craft while building dedicated audiences.

Industry Context and Competitive Landscape

TikTok’s latest move positions it alongside major streaming services that have long supported songwriter attribution. Spotify has offered similar highlighting features for years, and Tidal introduced tools to help musicians track royalty credits and manage their catalogs last year.

Despite the closure of its standalone music streaming service, TikTok Music, the platform remains a primary discovery engine for new tracks. This update complements the previously released “TikTok for Artists” tool, which provides creators with data-driven insights into campaign performance and track reach.
