Snapchat officially announced on Thursday a major expansion of its creator ecosystem. To better compete with industry giants like Instagram and TikTok, the platform is rolling out a suite of intuitive editing features, enhanced archival options, and deeper performance analytics designed to streamline content production.

Advanced Timeline Editing and Video Creation

The centerpiece of this update is the new “Timeline Editor,” a tool built to simplify the video creation process directly within the app. By providing a chronological layout, the editor allows creators to trim, sequence, and rearrange clips with professional precision. Once the structure is set, users can integrate Lenses and music from the platform’s extensive Sounds library without needing third-party software like CapCut.

Additionally, Snapchat is introducing a “Create a Video” template. This feature automates the compilation process: creators simply select specific Memories and a track from the Sounds library, and the app generates a polished custom video. This feature is currently rolling out globally for iOS users.

Preserving Content and Public Stories

In a shift from its traditional ephemeral roots, Snapchat is enabling users to automatically save public Stories directly to their profiles. This move allows creators to curate a lasting portfolio of their best content, ensuring that high-performing posts remain accessible to followers long after the 24-hour window expires.

Data-Driven Insights for Creators

Snapchat is also upgrading its analytics dashboard to provide creators with a more granular view of their audience engagement. The new metrics include:

  • Audience Retention: Creators can track the number of viewers who have engaged with their public content for at least 12 days over the past month.
  • Content Performance: A 28-day overview of top-performing Spotlight posts and public Stories, including total aggregate watch time.
  • Traffic Attribution: Detailed breakdowns of where views originate, whether from the Discover “For You” page, Following, Spotlight, Search, Chat, or Profile views.
  • Engagement Depth: Specific data on the average time spent on Spotlight posts and the completion rate of that content.

By offering these deeper insights, Snapchat aims to help creators optimize their content strategies and better understand what resonates with their specific audience segments.
