Spotify officially entered the fitness industry this Monday, evolving from a music streaming service into a comprehensive workout hub. Following successful expansions into podcasts, audiobooks, and physical books, the company announced a strategic move to host direct exercise content through partnerships with wellness creators and Peloton.
Transforming Workouts With Integrated Content
The platform is leveraging its reputation for high-energy exercise playlists to become the primary destination for guided physical activity. Users can access these new resources via a dedicated “Fitness” hub within the application or by searching for the term “fitness.” The content, which includes both audio and video formats, is now available across mobile, desktop, and TV interfaces.

Partnerships and Class Variety
At launch, Spotify is offering a robust library of instructional content. Both free and Premium users gain access to curated playlists and guided sessions from wellness experts, including Yoga with Kassandra, Caitlin K’eli Yoga, Sweaty Studio, Chloe Ting, Pilates Body by Raven, Abi Mills Wellness, and Sophiereidfit.
Furthermore, an exclusive partnership with Peloton provides Spotify Premium users in select markets with over 1,400 ad-free, on-demand workout classes. This catalog spans strength training, cardio, yoga, meditation, and running—all accessible without requiring specialized Peloton hardware.
Strategic Growth and User Experience
The decision to pivot toward fitness is rooted in internal data: nearly 70% of Spotify’s Premium subscribers engage in workout-related activity monthly, and the platform currently hosts over 150 million fitness-themed playlists. The company also observed a significant surge in demand for workout-related audio following the release of its AI-powered Prompted Playlist feature.
Technical Details and Monetization
- Language Support: Content is currently available in English, with additional options in Spanish and German.
- Offline Access: Workouts can be downloaded for use without an internet connection.
- Creator Monetization: Participating wellness creators can utilize Spotify’s existing monetization tools, including the Spotify Partner Program.
While the company has not disclosed the financial terms of the Peloton deal, it remains open to future monetization strategies, such as potential paid classes or subscription tiers. To address concerns regarding interface clutter—a common critique as the app expands into non-music formats—Spotify has introduced features like the ability to disable videos across the platform, ensuring users maintain control over their listening and viewing experience.
