YouTube has officially confirmed a “voluntary exit program” for its U.S.-based workforce, offering severance packages to employees who choose to depart. The initiative, revealed by CEO Neal Mohan in an internal memo on Wednesday, coincides with a significant structural reorganization of the company’s product divisions.

Strategic Internal Reorganization

The Alphabet-owned platform is reshaping its product teams into three distinct organizations, all of which will now report directly to Mohan. This move aims to streamline operations and sharpen the focus on core business pillars:

  • Subscription Products: Dedicated to the growth and management of YouTube Music, Premium, and OTT services.
  • Viewer Products: Focused on optimizing the user experience across the primary YouTube app, YouTube Kids, Learning, and Trust & Safety initiatives.
  • Creator & Community Products: Centered on providing robust support for content creators and fostering community engagement.

Despite these organizational shifts, the company maintains that no specific roles are being eliminated as a direct result of the restructuring.

Financial Context and Performance

The announcement follows the release of Alphabet’s third-quarter earnings, which highlighted YouTube’s continued financial strength. The platform reported $10.26 billion in advertising revenue for the quarter, representing a 15% increase compared to the same period last year.

The restructuring and the voluntary exit program, first reported by Sources, signal a shift in how the platform intends to balance its massive advertising success with evolving product priorities.
