Automattic, the powerhouse behind WordPress.com, has officially launched Write Brief with AI. This new tool, currently in beta, is designed to analyze existing blog content to improve clarity, conciseness, and overall readability for users of the platform.
How Write Brief with AI Enhances Content
The tool functions as an intelligent editor that scans your drafts to identify stylistic weaknesses. If the system detects wordiness, it provides a “Suggest” button that automatically proposes simplified sentence structures. Beyond brevity, the AI evaluates the tone and complexity of the writing:
- Confidence Scoring: It flags hesitant language, such as the overuse of the word “possibly,” to help writers sound more authoritative.
- Complexity Alerts: It identifies overly complex vocabulary that may alienate or confuse a broader audience.
- Real-time Metrics: A sidebar dashboard provides a readability score based on three core pillars: complexity, sentence length, and confidence.

Integration and Availability
Write Brief with AI is currently integrated into Jetpack, the robust suite of features designed to enhance WordPress functionality. During this initial beta phase, the tool is available exclusively for WordPress.com sites at no additional cost. Users can access it directly via the Jetpack icon located in the top right corner of the editor.
This release complements Automattic’s previous generative AI assistant, which focuses on creating content from scratch and adjusting the tone of posts to be more informal or empathetic. While the previous assistant supports a dozen languages, Write Brief with AI is currently limited to English.

Strategic AI Integration
Automattic occupies a unique position in the digital landscape as both a contributor to the open-source WordPress project and the operator of the commercial WordPress.com platform. By embedding AI capabilities directly into the editing workflow, the company aims to standardize high-quality, readable content across the vast portion of the web it powers.
According to the company, the tool originated during an internal hack week. After observing high engagement and utility among internal teams, Automattic moved to make it available to its global user base. As the tool matures, it aims to set a new standard for how bloggers refine their drafts before hitting publish.
