Meta has officially launched Hyperscape, a breakthrough technology that allows users to transform physical spaces into photorealistic virtual reality environments. Announced during the Meta Connect developer conference, the tool is now rolling out in early access for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S owners aged 18 and older.

How Hyperscape Works
The process of digitizing a room is designed for efficiency. Users can scan a physical space in just a few minutes using their Quest hardware. Once the capture is complete, Meta’s cloud rendering systems take over to process the data, with final rendering typically requiring a few hours to achieve a high-fidelity, immersive digital replica.
The technology leverages advanced techniques, including Gaussian splatting, cloud rendering, and high-speed streaming, to ensure these photorealistic worlds run smoothly on Quest headsets.
Real-World Applications and Features
Meta has already showcased several high-profile examples of Hyperscape in action. Featured environments include:
- Gordon Ramsay’s home kitchen in Los Angeles.
- Chance the Rapper’s “House of Kicks.”
- The Octagon at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
- A detailed recreation of “Happy Kelli’s” room, complete with her extensive Crocs collection.
While the initial rollout focuses on individual creation, Meta confirmed that social functionality is on the roadmap. Future updates will allow users to invite others into their digital spaces via private links.
Broader Metaverse Expansion
The introduction of Hyperscape is part of a wider push to expand the Meta Horizon ecosystem. During the conference, the company also unveiled a new slate of VR gaming titles, including Marvel’s Deadpool VR, Star Wars: Beyond Victory, and Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked.
Furthermore, the Horizon TV streaming app is receiving significant upgrades. The platform will soon support Disney+, including integrated content from ESPN and Hulu. Additionally, a new partnership with Universal Pictures and Blumhouse will bring immersive horror experiences, such as M3GAN and The Black Phone, to the platform, alongside a limited-time 3D clip of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
The rollout of Hyperscape begins today and will be implemented gradually across the global user base.
